This school year, PSCCN piloted a worksite tour effort in Pierce County with two school districts: Franklin Pierce and Sumner. Working in partnership with the Pierce County workforce development coordinating entity, Workforce Central, students from these two districts were able to attend tours from employers in a variety of key county industry sectors, including Niagara Water, Tacoma Rail, Nintendo, Dillanos Coffee Roasters, WestRock, the Department of Financial Institutions and the Administrative Offices of the Court (AOC). Modeled after the Road Map Project’s worksite tour effort, which has been operating with South King County schools since 2016, PSCCN served as a central coordinator for the tours and provided various resources to districts and employers to help develop a meaningful career exploration experience for students. Tour goals were to expose students to a variety regional employers, work environments, types of positions, and employees with diverse educational and employment experiences so that they could continue to develop critical thinking skills related to career decision-making. The worksite tour pilot recently wrapped up and we look forward to sharing what we learned from the tours over the next couple of months. Below is a highlight from the last tour of the pilot at the Administrative Offices of the Court.
